Joost - Is it the future of TV?

JoostWe all love a bit of video on the web, but Joost is taking it to a whole new level which plans to mix the web up with full-screen streaming shows and videos. They will also have other features incorporated into the system, like instant messaging, chat, search and more right on the user-interface. I haven’t checked it out myself, since I’m waiting until it goes public to check it out - I hate bugs in betas. But it seems like a promising advancement for the web industry. And best of all Joost is completely free and works with most modern PCs and Intel Mac-based computers with a broadband connection.

Joost Screen Shots 1I checked out the screen shots they have on their site, and to tell you the truth, I found the user-interface rather elementary for my taste. If they want to “revolutionize”, it would be nice to see a really nice user-interface to go along with it. Most companies overlook this aspect when developing a product to only be hindered and hurt by it (having a great product is key, but presentation is everything).

I like the concept, and hopefully when they come out of beta they’ll have a better handle on things. From what I can tell now, they have a lot of “coming soon” features. So it’s too soon to say if it’s the future of TV. I want to try it out first-hand and see if it’s what they claim it is (”TV, the way you want it”). If you’ve checked it out already with one of those “private invitations”, send me some feedback on it.
