Sony’s 30GB Handycam® Camcorder HDR-SR1
The 30GB Handycam® Camcorder HDR-SR1 from Sony is among one of the best camcorders I’ve gotten so far to review, and it’s what I would recommend. It’s great for any level user, from novice film makers to experts. What really makes it stand out from the rest is the ability to actually record right onto it’s 30GB built-in hard drive, and of course the touch screen! You don’t have to fumble around with CD’s or tapes anymore, nope, the hard drive is capable of recording hours of video which can be easily uploaded onto your computer.
This camcorder packs a punch for it’s price tag and has an extensive list of features. Another one that is always great to have is the ability to record in High-Definition (HD), recoding at a full HD 1080 is great. Overall I would have to say it is my number one choice in camcorders so far. Most of Sony’s camcorders are well recommended, being top of the line equipment for today’s robust film makers.

Aloha Alex-
Nice little ditty about the camera. I’m actually looking into a camera for both personal use and to publish things to the web. I’d love to be able to afford this one but don’t think it’s in the budget as of now. I’m looking more in the range of $300-$600.
What camera do you think would rock for producing quality online video but still be in my price range? HD would rock but it seems to be a little out of my budget.

Hey man,
I would actually have to say to go with a sony cam. I’ve tried out several brands and sony is my preferred brand for cams right now. I’m soon going to be publishing vids online too and I’m more than likely going to use the cam above.
When it comes to price range, you can get a sony cam to fit about any budget. What about the DCR-SR42 30GB Handycam® Camcorder DCR-SR42, it’s a hard drive based cam too, but at the higher end of your budget. Or maybe try out one of their DVD Handycam Camcorders that lets you record onto CD disks, at least it’s not tape and can also be uploaded into your computer rather fast and it’s at a lower end of your budget.
If your looking for a web cam, then I would say go with the new cams from logitech, like the QuickCam® Ultra Vision Special Edition. It has lot of cool features, but won’t be as good as an actual camera yet.

hi alex i just got an hdr-sr1. i run pinnacle 9 studio plus, can you tell me the best way how to load it on to studio .

I’ve never used Pinnacle, but if you are having problems with compatibility issues where you can’t get the cam to connect to the software, then I would suggest to upload the files onto your computer then open them up with the software. I do this with one of my Sony cyber-shot because it’s actually much faster.
Basically connect the cam to your computer with the cables provided, then go to your start menu and click explore, once there, look on the left under you Computer folder, under Computer you should see the Sony Cam. Click on it to access that folder and its content. From there you can duplicate the video onto your desktop and then open it with your software.
I don’t know the level you’re at when it comes to all this, so if it sounds complicated just send me an email and we’ll discuss it further.
