Downloading of Free Movies, Music, & Software on the Rise

Piracy - Skull and BonesBefore we get started I would just like to clarify that it may be illegal in your city, state, or country to participate in online piracy - this article is for informative purposes only. Currently online piracy is on the rise and downloading movies, music, and applications has become quite easy for the masses to even accomplish. In this article we’ll point out several ways people can get movies, music, and software among other things online for free.

Torrents & P2P Networking
Torrents and P2P applications let you participate in uploading, downloading, and essentially sharing files online. One of the major ways people get free stuff online is by downloading them via Torrent websites, basically these Torrent websites provide a list of items people have submitted for sharing purposes such as movies, music, software, and other various files but the only way to download these files onto your computer is by using a Torrent application. Torrent applications are very easy and fun to use once you get the hang of it but another great way to download free stuff is by using a P2P (Peer-To-Peer) application which cuts out the middleman process (i.e. Torrent Websites), letting you directly search through files of users that are connected to the internet. Both applications have their pros and cons but overall I would say that Torrents are best for movies and software downloads while P2Ps are better for music and file downloads. Nonetheless, here’s a list of apps and websites for your visual pleasure.

BitTorrent (Torrent App.) This is among the most popular Torrent application out there to date.

µTorrent (Torrent App.) µTorrent application is on the rise, getting lots of traction and attention from the online sharing community.

Azureus (Torrent App.) The Azureus Torrent application is very nice, it has a high-resolution content platform and a rich streamlined interface providing a great user experience.

TorrentSpy (Website for Torrent Apps.) TorrentSpy receives hundreds of newly added torrents per day, and is the most popular in my opinion. It contains a variety of content such as movies, music, photos, files, and applications.

isoHunt (Website for Torrent Apps.) World’s largest BitTorrent and P2P search engine. It’s basically the search engine of the Torrent world, letting you find just about any type of content you’re looking for.

The Pirate Bay (Website for Torrent Apps.) The Pirate Bay was started by the Swedish anti copyright organization Piratbyrån in the late 2003, but is since October 2004 separated and run by dedicated individuals. It’s set up like a search engine and very easy to navigate and browse through.

Mininova (Website for Torrent Apps.) Mininova is easy to navigate and provides tons of content for downloading. It’s been around for quite some time now and it’s still growing in size.

Acquisition (P2P App.) This is a P2P which works exclusively on Mac computers, Mac lovers rejoice and have fun.

LimeWire (P2P App.) LimeWire is one of the best and most popular P2P applications to use for sharing content online.

There are many other P2P applications out there worth mentioning such as BearShare, Morpheus, and Shareaza, but overall the best ones are all listed here which are trustworthy in my book so far.

  1. There’s plenty of legal free content available for download. If anyone’s looking for legally downloadable music, there’s a few posts that might help you over at The Far Corner.

It’s not the tools themselves that are illegal - it’s what you do with them.
