Mr. Wong’s “Closed-Beta”, A Social Bookmarking Site
I was recently invited to be a beta tester for Mr. Wong, a social bookmarking website which as research shows is quite popular in Europe. Since they already have successfully launched localized portals in Russian, Chinese, French and Spanish, they decided to open up an English version of the site to broaden their reach. The English version says it’s a “closed-beta” but you can submit your email to be selected into the next round of beta testers. As a beta tester you’re eligible to win an iPod nano, in addition to the free Mister Wong T-shirt and a pin set you’ll get for participating.
I checked it out and after testing it out, adding some bookmarks and playing around with their features, I would say that all-in-all the site does have some pretty fun features which I haven’t seen on a social bookmarking site before, features which just might make a difference for social bookmarking users. Concerning the design, it would be nice to see an upgrade to the overall layout of the site and a makeover of its design, which may very well strengthen their branding presentation a bit more if done correctly and therefore increase their traffic. Although I like the “Mr. Wong” gimmick, it does kind of remind me of the Hot Pocket commercials, but that’s probably just how I see it. Overall it’s a pretty fun social bookmarking site with some pretty nice features to check out, hopefully we’ll see more of them in the months to come, but for now if you would like to keep up with what their doing over at Mr. Wong, you can check out their Twitter here, or sign up and participate in their beta testing.
