FriendFeed, Stalking Friends Just Got Easier

FriendFeed LogoA new application called FriendFeed, let’s you basically stalk the activity of your friends online. All you have to do is add who you want to be tracking online and the system keeps you updated with all of their activity (at least what FriendFeed is able to track of them so far, which is a lot). For example, you can keep an eye on what your friends are listening to on Last.fm, what videos they fav on YouTube.com, or even what sites they have visited on Stumbleupon.com. And the fun (stalking) doesn’t stop there, you can also track their Digg, Flickr, and Pownce activities, just to mention a few more.

“FriendFeed makes it easy to keep track of the web pages, videos, music, and photos your friends and family interact with around the Internet. The site is currently in a private beta-testing period.”

Currently the system has the ability to track 23 different services online, most of the popular ones anyways, so the good old days of privacy are practically thrown out. It’s a great application, but it can also be a dangerous one in my opinion. Correction, if you’re willing to participate in social websites, then I guess you don’t mind others knowing things about you. So in actuality, this site isn’t bad for those of you that are “social” online, since it will give you more exposure and provide a leeway to the people that want to know more about you.

Another interesting tidbit about the company is that all four founders of FriendFeed are actually ex-employees of the famous Google, which worked on popular apps. such as GoogleMaps and Gmail. So this new app. may be in fact something they came up with for the purpose of a quick acquisition deal with Google. Nothing is concrete yet, but it’s a possibility that could be on the horizon for FriendFeed.

  1. *turns MB off and pulls blanket over head… can they see me now?

can’t quite decide how i feel about the ease of stalking these days. with WHOIS + googlemaps someone can literally show up on your doorstep. i love connecting with cool people, but i also love my privacy. that’s why i love blogging. on my blog i have control over what is said, what photos are published.. i even have the ability to censor rude or graphic comments. but with fb or mycrappyspace you are in their domain… i am just waiting for the day when fb says… oops… all those 3rd party apps may have, kinda, sold all your information for loads of money… sorry… another booze mail?

  2. Definitely agree with you Lisa.
